The Bridge celebrates Youth Day with friends from Siyakhuliswa

HOUGHTON – Young children from The Bridge Nursery School enjoyed a sports day with children from Siyakhuliswa Educare and Preschool on Youth Day.

The Bridge Nursery School invited Siyakhuliswa Educare and Preschool to join them for a sports day in celebration of Youth Day recently.

The little Johannians had a great time running races with their visiting friends before sharing their picnic lunches. The children had fun playing together, breaking down barriers and learning empathy.

One of the parents at The Bridge donated 150 Ndebele blankets to this community engagement programme and children from The Bridge collected beanies and scarves as well as tinned food for their new friends to take home.

Headmistress at The Bridge Sue Jacobson said, “All children, no matter their social standing, have the right to play together, learn about each other and build special connections between each other.”

The Bridge has a long-standing relationship with Siyakhuliswa since its inception. The Bridge was involved in the original establishment in Mshenguville informal settlement in Soweto before it was relocated to Lehae in 2007 when the residents were moved to the new RDP housing development. The Bridge continues its relationship with Siyakhuliswa, offering financial assistance, and looks forward to strengthening the partnership between the two schools.
