MMC for Health Mpho Phalatse marches against substance abuse

JOHANNESBURG – The march aimed to raise awareness on the scourge of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The MMC for Health and Social Development Mpho Phalatsi has led a march to commemorate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Joubert Park, Johannesburg on 27 June.

This was in partnership with various civil society organisations to raise awareness on the scourge of drug abuse and illicit trafficking as well as strategies that have been put in place to deal with drugs by the City of Johannesburg.

The theme for this year – Health for Justice. Justice for Health – seeks to highlight that an effective response to the drug problem faced by society requires coordinated, multi-sectoral action from key institutions of criminal justice, health and social services.

A nyaope and cocaine addict Musa Zulu said the rehabilitation centre did not help him quit the drugs.

Phalatse encouraged displaced people and drug addicts to use the various programmes at Joubert Park Treatment Centre to assist them with improving their lives and fighting addiction.
