Twenty suspects arrested in Hillbrow during a raid on hijacked buildings
HILLBROW – On 19 June, the City of Johannesburg raided four buildings that were suspected of being hijacked. During the Bad Building Operation, 20 suspects were arrested and appeared in court on 20 June.
On a raid of hijacked buildings in Hillbrow, two suspects were arrested who were wanted for murder and another two for being in possession of illegal substances.
One suspect was arrested for being in possession of stolen property and one for being in possession of a dangerous weapon.
The buildings raided were 34 and 35 Bok Street, 41 Quartz Street and 75 Wolmarans Street.
Among these arrests, 14 undocumented people were also processed.
The ‘Bad Building’ operation was led by the City of Johannesburg’s anti-fraud and corruption department which worked alongside the police and Metro police.
“To date, 44 hijacked properties have been handed back to their rightful owners. About 643 properties are confirmed as hijacked in the city,” said the City of Johannesburg’s anti-fraud and corruption department in a tweet.
