Nora clean-up drive in Orange Grove a success

ORANGE GROVE – The clean-up resulted in 23 bags of waste being removed.

Norwood Oaklands Residents Association (Nora) members led a clean-up of the Orange Grove Stream in The Gardens on 15 June.

According to the association’s chairperson Brett McDougall, they have been championing this public open space for five years now. “Four years ago, Nora obtained the permission of City Parks to fence this area of the river following massive dumping,” said McDougall.

“It took two years to clear the most obvious waste from the riverbanks. We are now concentrating on removing invasive bugweed and black wattles and dealing with the plastic waste that is continually washed downstream.”

He said that 23 bags of waste were removed in Saturday’s clean-up and encouraged more residents to get involved with the project. “It was wonderful to see 12 residents join us today to clean the river – imagine what 20 or 30 could do.”
