A lot of effort is put in by various stakeholders to ensure the safety of Rosebank residents as well as visitors. These stakeholders comprise the Excellerate Management Services who work in conjunction with the Rosebank Police Station members to ensure a safe Rosebank Central Business District (CBD) for patrons to enjoy.
Excellerate precinct manager Lerato Khiba said the June school breaks are generally a busy season for learners and tourists.
“The influx of tourists or scholars usually comes with unwanted criminal elements. Recent crime stats of the Rosebank CBD showed that most incidents of car break-ins are due to valuables left visible in the vehicles,” Khiba said.
She shared some tips on how to protect belongings as well as to stay safe:
- Be vigilant with your valuables
- Limit the use of your phone in public
- Please do not leave any valuables in your car
- Always keep your doors locked
- Park in a well-lit area at night
- Keep enough distance from the rear of the car in front of you to enable you to change lanes in a hurry; this applies while driving and in traffic
- Be alert of beggars at intersections and avoid giving them money, rather donate to the Rosebank Homeless Association.
- Never open your window when approached by a stranger
- Always safeguard your handbag/laptop bags while shopping.
