Johannesburg Flying Squad arrest 16 suspects for various crimes

JOHANNESBURG – All the 16 suspects were arrested during normal police patrol duties.


The weekend between 14 and 18 June saw 16 suspects remanded in police custody for allegedly committing offences in various parts of Johannesburg.

According to the spokesperson for the Johannesburg Flying Squad unit, senior personnel officer Raymond Sambo, “All the 16 suspects were arrested during their routine patrol duties, one was for murder, another one for reckless and negligent driving.

“Two other suspects were arrested for alleged armed robbery, one suspect face a charge of assault common, another one for vehicle theft, nine others were held for possession of drugs.”

Sambo said 11 vehicles reported stolen and a motorbike, as well as an unlicensed firearm – a Beretta 9mm pistol including ammunition – were all recovered.

The recovered vehicles include a silver Mercedes Benz, white Ford Ranger, white blue BMW, three white Nissan NP200, white Toyota Etios, silver VW Jetta, white Toyota Corolla, white Ford Fiesta and a hijacked vehicle recovered is a Mercedes Benz.

The stolen motorbike is a silver Honda motorbike.

All the suspects, aged between 21 and 39, have since appeared in the different magistrates’ courts facing different charges.
