Netflix begins production for action-packed thriller, Queen Sono

JOBURG – Netflix begins production on its first original African series, Queen Sono, starring Pearl Thusi, Vuyo Dabula and more.

Online streaming giant, Netflix, has started production on its first original African series, Queen Sono, an action-packed spy thriller produced by Johannesburg-based production company, Diprente.

The six-part series follows, Queen Sono, a highly trained and unconventional spy working for an undercover South African agency devoted to protecting the people of Africa. With Pearl Thusi taking the lead as the title character, the series boasts an all-local cast which includes the likes of Vuyo Dabula, Sechaba Morojele, Chi Mhende, Loyiso Madinga, Rob Van Vuuren and more exciting acts which bring the action-packed series to life.

The Diprente-produced series is expected to hit Netflix in 2020 and is directed by Kagiso Lediga and Tebogo Malope who will both be directing three episodes each.
