Two men held for conspiring to commit robbery in Jeppestown

JEPPESTOWN – Members of the flying squad followed a tip-off.

Two armed men were arrested in Jeppestown on the corner of Berg and Jules streets and police claim the suspects were allegedly conspiring to commit robbery.

This incident happened on 8 June and Johannesburg Flying Squad police spokesperson senior personnel officer Raymond Sambo said two illegal firearms were also confiscated.

Members of the flying squad were following up on a tip-off about a silver Ford Focus vehicle, whose owners were allegedly planning to commit a robbery around Jeppestown.

The members spotted the vehicle driving on Berg Street, and Sambo said police officers then pounced on them.

“Upon searching the vehicle and suspects, members recovered two unlicensed 9mm firearms [CZ 75 and Glock] with serial numbers filed off,” Sambo said.

“The suspects were placed under arrest and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and conspiracy to commit a robbery and were detained at Jeppe SAPS.”

The two suspects, aged between 27 and 35, have since appeared in the Jeppe Magistrates’ Court.
