Two suspects were arrested by Johannesburg Central police for possession of suspected stolen property at the corner of Commissioner and Small streets on 11 June.
According to the spokesperson for Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele, officers were conducting their routine crime prevention duties when the men were arrested.
He said while patrolling, the officers saw the two suspicious looking men carrying a flat screen television and a big bag.
“When the police stopped their car, they put down the bag and the TV and then tried to run away. The police gave chase and apprehended them.”
Upon looking in the bag, the police found a sound system inside, he added.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the property was stolen in Sebokeng and the suspects were on their way to sell it in town.
An investigation is still underway and the suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
Details: Xoli Mbele 082 777 6263.
