Drunk drivers arrested by Jeppe police over the weekend

JEPPE – The arrests made by the officers show dedication to their job.

About 10 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol were arrested by the Jeppe police in an overnight operation last weekend.

According to spokesperson Captain Richard Munyayi, the operation lasted about 12 hours.

“Jeppe SAPS police officers had a drunk driving operation and arrested people who were found to be over the limit on Friday until Saturday morning,” said Munyayi in a statement.

“The operation also saw people arrested for possession of stolen property, armed robbery and assault, as well as for housebreaking and theft. About 15 people in total were arrested during the operation.”

The 15 suspects have since appeared in different courts, while others were expected to pay fines.

“These kinds of operations will be conducted on a daily basis to ensure that Jeppe SAPS policing precinct is safe for its community,” said the station commander Brigadier Wiseman Mthembu.

The senior police official said the arrests made by his officers show dedication to their job.

He then pleaded with the community to work with the police and report any incompetence and corruption by the police officers.

He also warned the community not to be part of the corruption.
