Lions club help local residents with eyesight

RIVERPARK – About 12 other people suffering from partial blindness will be assisted next month.

Ward 81 councillor Irene Rugheimer took about 12 residents with eye problems from Alexandra and Riverpark to get their eyes tested at Lions Operation Brightsight in Benoni on 29 May.

The organisation is part of Lions International and provides many unfortunate and poor people struggling with their eyesight the opportunity to obtain spectacles.

“Imagine not being able to see clearly when conducting your daily activities – unfortunately for many this is a reality,” said Rugheimer.

The centre provides 100 per cent prescription lenses at an affordable cost. The frames into which the lenses are fitted are recycled.”

The residents I took to the clinic were sponsored by the Bedfordview Lions club, she said, adding that transport was also provided.

“Each recipient has been requested to pay R30 towards the testing and supply of spectacles. The cost ranged between R250 and R580 per person.”

The councillor thanked the Bedfordview Lions Club for their generous sponsorship.

She said they will be doing this again next month for yet another 12 residents.
