Update: Gauteng Department of Community Safety applauds arrest of bogus cops

JOBURG – The Department of Community Safety urged community members to report bogus police to authorities.


The Gauteng Department of Community Safety has applauded the arrest of four suspects for allegedly impersonating police officers in the City of Johannesburg. 

The suspects were arrested on 25 May. As reported online in Bogus cops arrested in Joburg CBD the suspects included three women and one male, two female suspects were arrested on the corner of Twist and Plein streets, the other two suspects were arrested on the corner of Noord Street and Wanderers Street.

The suspects allegedly demanded R3 000 from three foreign nationals and told one victim that their passport had expired. Police are investigating the matter.

Ofentse Morwane spokesperson of the department said, “The Gauteng Department of Community Safety condemns such immoral practice and urges the police to continue their fight against unscrupulous criminals who masquerade as police officers in the province.”

Morwane said the community should report cases of bogus police officer to authorities to ensure the rule of law and order is never undermined.
