Joburg police nab suspects for different crimes

JOHANNESBURG – Suspects are expected to appear soon in different magistrate's courts in Joburg.


Twenty-one suspects remain in police custody for allegedly committing serious crimes in various parts of Johannesburg.

The arrests were made between 17 and 20 May by the Johannesburg Flying Squad during their routine patrols at different parts of Joburg.

According to the new spokesperson for the squad, Senior Personnel Officer Raymond Sambo, the suspects face crimes ranging from robbery to carjacking.

Sambo said they recovered a Honda Ballade and a Toyota Corolla, as well as unlicensed firearms during the arrests. “Our officers recovered two hijacked vehicles and one unlicensed 9mm Taurus pistol.

“They also arrested two suspects for armed robbery, two others for robbery and another two suspects for theft. One suspect was arrested for assault, while another one was held for drunken driving.”

Sambo added that another suspect was arrested and faces a charge of damage to property while 12 other suspects were arrested and detained for dealing in drugs.

He encourages members of the public to continue working with police and reporting crime and any suspicious persons and activities.

All the suspects aged between 18 and 49 are expected to appear soon in the different Magistrate’s courts facing different charges.
