Constable joined the police after seeing crimes being committed before his eyes at train stations

PARKVIEW – Constable warns community members to be vigilant when driving home from malls.

Constable Reratileo Marota decided to join the police to bring an end to the crimes being committed in various communities.

“Before I joined the police, I took the train to work and saw all the crimes happening at train stations. I joined the police to do something about it,” said Marota.

He has served for nine years at the Parkview Police Station, conducting patrols and attending to complaints in the area.

“I enjoy meeting new people every day, chasing after suspects and making arrests,” said Marota.

He recalled an arrest which took place two weeks ago, which brought him much satisfaction.

“We were alerted about a vacant house where there had been suspicious activity. When we arrived, we saw the gate open and found the suspects hiding in the yard in possession of copper piping.” He explained that the suspects were arrested on charges of vandalism and possession of suspected stolen property.

He urges community members to be alert when driving home from malls.

“People must always check that they are not being followed. If they notice any suspicious activity, they should call the police or drive to the nearest police station.”

Spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said, “Constable Marota is committed. Whenever he and Sergeant Ernest Mazibuko go outside the station, they always make sure the area is clean. Before they knock off, they make sure that there has been an arrest.

“We are proud to have Constable Marota with us. He is an officer who makes sure that the community is safe.”
