Union of Jewish Women celebrate their 87 years of existence in Johannesburg

HOUGHTON – This was a celebration of their long time existence in the community.

 


The Union of Jewish Women (UJW) Johannesburg hosted its 87th Annual General Meeting on 7 May at their offices in Oak Street, Houghton.

Executive director, Cindy Kree, listed the successful ongoing projects of the union which include Kosher Mobile Meals, the House and Garden Circle, the adult education programme, Yiddish lessons, the sewing school, its granny-headed household feeding scheme, Alexandra Aftercare as well as other feedings schemes.

She said this year’s AGM was a great success and they celebrated another successful year. Kree thanked volunteers and donors who enabled the union to succeed in all its projects and functions. “Things went very well according to our plans and we are excited about the turnout of members who attended the meeting.

“This was a celebration of our union as well as our existence at the union and supporting our communities.”

Guest speaker at the union, Talia Isaacs, spoke about her survival of a double lung transplant, sharing with the audience the captivating story of how she is able to ‘breathe a new life’.

Special recognition was given to staff members for their long service of 12 years and above. Kree said the volunteer of the year was awarded to Lilian Kallmann, who volunteers at Kosher Mobile Meals.
