Warrant officer is committed to serving the Parkview community

PARKVIEW – Warrant officer shares tips to avoid theft out of motor vehicles.

Warrant officer Silas Mathabatha decided to join the police 27 years ago in order to serve the community.

Seen as the backbone of the Parkview Police Station, he has served in multiple positions at the station since 1992.

Mathabatha started off in crime prevention, moved on to work at the Client Service Centre (CSC), worked as head of crime prevention, then shift commander and now as Vispol support head.

His work involves filing the duty register, checking crime patterns, assisting the Vispol head, attending district meetings, planning operations and overseeing the service offered to clients at the CSC.

“I enjoy sitting in the office and seeing community members happy to be helped. I monitor that all complainants are well-assisted,” said Mathabatha.

He warns community members to be particularly vigilant regarding crimes including theft out of motor vehicles and theft of motor vehicles, which are common crime trends in the area.

“If you go to a restaurant, you must make sure that your vehicle is locked and valuable items are removed from the car. Also, make sure that you parked in a safe area,” he said.

Mathabatha was applauded for his hard work in 2013 when he was awarded the prize for Best Crime Prevention Head.

“I have recovered many firearms over the years, which has made me happy because it has prevented a lot of robberies.”

Spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko described Mathabatha as a police officer with vast experience in various roles. “He is committed to contributing to this station and is dedicated to tasks. If you give him a task, he will always do it without complaining.”
