St John’s Academy is proud of their learners who have graduated from university

HOUGHTON – St John's College Academy saw four of their matriculants complete their university degrees.

 



The St John’s College Academy is proud to announce that four of their matriculants have graduated from university in the last month.

These students joined the academy in their Grade 10 year and matriculated in 2014 and 2015.

The academy, which celebrated its 10th birthday this year, is an after-school enrichment programme for boys in Grade 10, 11 and 12, promoting excellence in subjects including maths, physical science, English and life skills. The academy identifies boys showing academic potential in suburbs of Hillbrow, Yeoville, Berea and Alexandra. There are currently 72 learners enrolled in the academy.

Brandon Mukwebe, Collin Kgoaripe, Daniel Biyakela and Lwazi Nzimande graduated recently. Mukwebe graduated from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) with a Bachelor of Arts in information systems, while Kgoaripe received a Bachelor of Commerce in marketing management and Biyakela received a Bachelor of Commerce in economics at UJ. Nzimande secured a bursary for his tertiary studies through the academy. He will complete his board exam in the second semester of this year and will begin work at Discovery as a risk analyst.

Mukwebe said, “I would like to thank the academy for acknowledging me and helping me at the beginning of my academic journey. I am immensely grateful.”

Kgoaripe, who will complete his honours this year, said, “I am very grateful for everything from the moment I walked into Barnato Park High School to the day I walked out of St John’s College Academy.”

Head of the St John’s College Academy Agnes Nugent said, “Every time I receive an invitation to attend a graduation ceremony or receive a photograph of one of the new graduates, my heart bursts with pride. I know all of these young men well and I know the difficult circumstances many of them have had to overcome to achieve these results. So many of them, as well as their families, attribute their success to the grounding, extra classes, and life skills that the St John’s Academy afforded them.”
