Gauteng Department of Education officially postpones online applications

JOBURG – Parents are notified that online applications have been postponed.


Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) hosted a media briefing on 12 May to address concerns surrounding school online admission applications.

GDE MEC Panyaza Lesufi addressed the public after Federation of Associations of Governing Bodies of South Africa (FEDSAS), Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwysunie (SAOU) a union and AfriForum which allegedly threaten to online admission applications.

In a tweet, the GDE explained that the online applications have been postponed from 13 May to 20 May. This is due to feeder-zone complications where the system might pick up a school that it outside of the feeder zone. Other concerns were raised that it may cause difficulty for parents who would like to apply to a particular school.

This will mainly affect applications for grades 1 and 8.
