Eleven injured in Metro police and taxi collision in Johannesburg

JOHANNESBURG – Police are investigating the cause of a crash between a JMPD taxi and a minibus taxi.


Eleven commuters were injured when a mini-bus taxi collided with a Metro police Toyota Quantum on the corner of Innes Street and Observatory Avenue on 6 May.

Three were seriously injured while seven suffered moderate injuries.

“The accident happened at 8am between the taxi and JMPD Quantum,” said Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

He added that two occupants of the Metro police vehicle were seriously injured. One occupant of the taxi was in a critical condition while the others suffered minor injuries. Some patients were taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and others to Hillbrow Clinic.

Minnaar said the cause of the accident was still unknown and the police would investigate.
