In their mission to unearth and groom upcoming musical talent, the The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (MKHMA) has made strategic changes to their 2019 categories to keep up with internationally accepted standards and music trends that will cater for an awards show of its stature.
The annual awards ceremony which will be taking place on 30 November at the Big Top Arena is set to return to Carnival City for the second time in a row. The awards were previously hosted successfully in Soweto but have had to move to accommodate their growing audience who enjoy experiencing the nostalgia brought on by MKHMA.
The founder and CEO of MKHMA, Perfecta Khumalo encouraged all artists to send in their entry forms as this is an opportunity they need not miss out.
“I encourage all artists to send their entry forms through. Please read the rules and regulation before you fill in an entry form. I am excited as this year we have a second runner-up prize but only for the upcoming Kwaito and House artists. We have so many surprises hence we say, #ZizowaMore,” said Khumalo.
One of the notable changes for 2019 is that upcoming artists will get a prize for the runner-up alongside the winner who will receive the award.

The Lifetime Achievement Award which was won by Victor ‘Doc Shebeleza’ Bogopane in 2018, will be awarded to a musical legend on the night of the awards. The coveted award is presented to an individual who has contributed immensely to the development and growth of South African music not only locally, but also to the International market.
A total of 19 categories have also been confirmed for the fourth edition of the awards show, with organisers mentioning that they will be embarking on a nationwide tour to look out for young talent who will be the future stars that will be taking part in the award show.
The nomination submission date opened on 1 May and will remain open up until the 31 July. Entry forms and rules for nomination can be found on the MKHMA website.
