Youth share their thoughts on elections: #IMadeMyMark …

ROSEBANK – The St Teresa's School first-time voters shared their feelings on voting for the first time as well as what they hope for.

The general elections are nearly upon us and the Rosebank Killarney Gazette asked first-time voters how they feel to be casting their votes for the first time and what they are hoping for #IMadeMyMark. This is what they had to say …

ITUMELENG MANNE: Being on the voters’ roll is so overwhelming because I am trying to make the right decision on who to vote for based on my own beliefs, but you get those relatives who pry and when they hear your choice, judge you for it. However, I am hoping for an improvement in the communication between the government and citizens. We can’t have so many protests going forward.
MIA SPINAZZE: It’s exciting to be on the voters’ roll because I’m no longer the only member of my family who isn’t. I am hoping that I can make the right decision so that my vote is one of those that play a part in ensuring a drastic change in terms of the poverty in our country, too many people have been struggling for too long.
NANDIPHA BAM: I am nervous about voting because it’s a massive responsibility that has been placed on all South Africans to choose a leading party for our country. But nervous as I am, I have to vote because it would be irresponsible for me to not take the chance when given then expect to have my complaints heard when I try to raise them. I do hope that the service delivery will improve especially in squatter camps so we have fewer protests.
CHARLOTTE BOISACQ: I feel that it’s our civic duty to vote as citizens of a democracy. We have been given the right to influence our country’s political climate so we should exercise it. I am desperately hoping that the results of this election will yield the sociopolitical change that our country needs.
ALISON GREENLEES: I am excited to vote because I am hoping to play a part in making a change instead of just sitting back and watching. I hope that from this election we see an improvement in all aspects of our country’s well-being.
