New building brings enhanced learning for St Teresa’s School

ROSEBANK – The building of the new block at St Teresa's is finally taking place after some time of waiting due to council regulations.

After some time of waiting for permission to commence building due to council regulations, St Teresa’s School in Rosebank was finally given the go-ahead.

According to the principal of the intermediate phase at St Teresa’s School, Jean Carey, the contractors had worked really hard regardless of the long wait before starting and the building process was running smoothly. She added that a ceremony to bless the grounds had also been held and the building would be two storeys with basement parking. “During the building of columns, a time capsule was inserted into one of the columns with the history of the school reflecting what the school looked like before the building process commenced,” explained Carey.

She said they anticipated to finish the work on 28 May with the official opening celebration in 2020 as the school would be turning 90 years. Carey said the modern building would keep the old feel from the 1930s which includes a lot of volume and the ‘catholic-school-symbolic iron rod to enhance incredible light shining from the inside to the outside’ while at the same time an enormous amount of natural light would come through the roof-top.

Carey said, “We will be looking to incorporate more of Steam (Science, technology, engineering, art, and maths), robotics and coding which have been embraced enormously. The girls and parents are excited to see the final outcome of the building.”
