He escaped while appearing for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and murder he committed in Jeppe, Johannesburg, in April 2018. Sbonelo Nkosingiphe was re-arrested at his hiding place in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, on 4 April this year. During his re-arrest, he was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

He will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 8 April facing a charge of escaping from lawful custody. He is expected back in the High Court for the initial charge of murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to a statement from the police, after his escape, a team of detectives has been working tirelessly to apprehend him. Police received information about his possible whereabouts which proved accurate.

The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, would like to thank the community that assisted the police in locating the wanted suspect and also applauded the investigating team that worked so hard to ensure that the escapee was re-arrested.
