Five suspects arrested following hijacked buildings raid

HILLBROW – Five suspects were arrested at Hillbrow and Berea during a raid that targetted hijacked buildings.

Five suspects were arrested for criminal offences on 29 March following raids on hijacked buildings in Joburg.

The suspects were detained at Hillbrow Police Station.

The raids were led by the city of Joburg’s Group Forensics and Investigation Service (GFIS) team together with the Johannesburg East Cluster. The raids took place at four properties and two men were arrested for possession of drugs, two for lack of identification and one for fraud.

“It is essential that we take back the city of Joburg from the criminal elements such as landlords who take advantage of desperate people and house them under deplorable conditions, which we do not want our children to grow up under,” said GFIService on Twitter.

The GFIS said the City of Joburg was committed to ensuring that they stop the rot in the inner city and make it a prosperous and inclusive place for people to live, work and play.
