Mashaba on a mission to attract investors back to the city

JOHANNESBURG – Executive mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba is on a mission to win back the confidence of investors.

Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba said the City’s main priority was to attract back investors.

The mayor, speaking at the launch of the new development, Jewel City in Maboneng, said investors could only be attracted to the city if the crime was low.

“We want to attract investments so that our people can be given opportunities. The only way you can attract investment in the city is that you have to be tough on criminals. We can not negotiate with criminals,” said Mashaba

Mashaba’s vision of turning the City of Johannesburg into a ‘construction site’ seems to be coming along very well. The mayor has been very vocal on reclaiming the hijacked buildings in the city and turning them into affordable accommodation for residents.

“As a multi-party government, we made it clear that we are going to turn this city into a construction site. We want to provide employment opportunities for our people and affordable accommodation.

“We want this city where our people can work, live and play. We as the government are playing that role of facilitating.”
