Mike Hoare’s son Chris launches his biography in Birnam

BIRNAM – Mike Hoare's son Chris will share insights on how he put together this biography at the launch at the BluBird Shopping Centre.

Community members are invited to the launch of the book Mad Mike Hoare: The Legend, the biography of a man who has become a household name in South Africa.

The launch will take place at Bookdealers of BluBird, at the BluBird Shopping Centre in Birnam on 27 March at 6.30pm.

The author is Hoare’s son Chris, a journalist, who will be in discussion with Mike at the launch.

Colonel Mike Hoare led 300 ‘Wild Geese’ across the Congo to crush the communist rebellion, rescued 2 000 nuns and priests from barbarity and beat Che Guevara to become world famous in the 1960s.

According to Chris, “Mike got to know the CIA agent who was to change his life and Nelson Mandela’s.”

The book seeks to separate the man from the myth to conclude that Chris’ ‘Mad Dad’ was an officer, gentleman and pirate too.

Mike celebrated his 100th birthday quietly in Durban on 17 March this year.

People are encouraged to RSVP to attend the launch to dovon@bookdealers.co.za or call 082 452 1441/ 082 465 1452.
