Johannesburg Central Police Station spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele has confirmed that a shooting at Bree Corner and Nugget Street in central Johannesburg left two people dead.
A cell phone video released on 14 March, shows a shootout of what appears to be between suspects and taxi drivers.

Mbele said, “Three suspects between the ages of 25 and 30 robbed a man of his cell phone and stole R400, a taxi driver witnessed the incident and started opening fire.
“The victim was shot and taken to a hospital, we do not know who shot him, one firearm was recovered.”
One of the suspects was shot and assaulted and was taken to a nearby hospital. The second suspect fled while pointing his firearm at civilians and telling them to get out the way. Mbele added that other armed taxi drivers witnessed this and they opened fire. The suspect managed to shoot one of the queue marshall’s who later died of his injuries.
The suspect was also shot and died of his injuries. The third suspect is still at large.
Mbele said a case of robbery and attempted murder was opened by the victim. He asked for the community’s assistance in the case.
