Norwood CPF member granted R800 bail

ORANGE GROVE – The suspect was released on bail and the NCPF will decide on his future in a meeting to be held soon.

A member of the Norwood Community Policing Forum’s (NCPF) future hangs in the balance following his arrest by the local police.

The member, who cannot be named yet, was arrested on 14 March after allegedly assaulting two employees of the Hospice Wits second-hand shop in Orange Grove.

Captain Elliot Tshivhase, the spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station, said, “The police were called to attend to the scene and the two employees opened a case with the police and he was subsequently arrested.

“He was then released after he was granted an R800 bail at the police station. The suspect faces charges of common assault and trespassing. He appeared on Friday [15 March] in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court.

“We don’t have much information about what happened afterward, but as the local police, we can only confirm that the matter is with the court.”

Mbali Langeni, NCPF public relations officer, confirmed that their member was indeed arrested but released on bail.

She added, “We have not suspended the member yet, pending the police investigation. We will be having a meeting soon and that matter will also form part of the agenda and that’s all we have to say at the moment.”

It is not clear when the accused is expected back in court, however, we will update our readers as and when more information is made available.

Details: Norwood Police Station 011 483 4600.
