46-year-old man arrested for impersonating a police officer

BRAMLEY– The suspect tried to fool a church pastor that he was a police officer.

A man was arrested while impersonating a police officer in the Wynberg area.

According to the spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi, it is alleged that on 8 March, a complainant was in a place of worship when he was informed by a member of the same church that there is someone who wanted to see the pastor.

“The man allegedly told the complainant that he is a member of South African Police Service holding a rank of captain and he was there conducting an investigation. The man stated that he was going by the name of Captain Khoza who was allegedly from Provincial Head Office,” Mogodi said.

He explained that it was further alleged that the man informed the complainant that he is investigating a case which was all over in the media and wanted to assist the church as he has been helping other churches and was getting paid for his work.

“The police were then called to the place and the suspect was questioned,” Mogodi said.

“It also emerged that the man was an imposter and not a member of the service as he alleged. The 46-year-old man was arrested and will appear in court soon.”

Mogodi also shared that Operation Okae Molao was a success during the weekend when several offenders were arrested for crimes ranging from possession of housebreaking implements, dealing in dagga and many were arrested for driving vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.
