Parkview acting detective commander believes he was born a policeman

PARKVIEW – Despite challenges of manpower Parkview police attend to all cases with the resources available to them.

Captain Nepaul Sayers of the Parkview Police Station said he was born a policeman and finds joy when perpetrators are brought to book.

Sayers has worked in the police for 29 years, 25 of which were as a detective. His current work at the Parkview station involves monitoring the performance of detectives by making sure that when cases are opened, suspects are traced, arrested and prosecuted. He also ensures that complainants receive regular feedback on the progress of their cases.

“I was born a policeman and I have always had a passion for working in the police. I am motivated by seeing community members happy and safe,” said Sayers.

As an acting detective commander, Sayers said he welcomes the community to visit his office if they are experiencing any issues or want to share compliments regarding the detectives.

“I have an open door policy.”

One of the challenges he experiences in this position is a shortage of manpower, however, he said this will not hinder Parkview detectives from attending to all cases with the resources at their disposal.

He said, “Community members need to work with us and report all cases to the station, no matter how minor they are. We need to get a true picture of the crime in our area and can only do this if the community is open with us.”

Spokesperson for the Parkview police Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said, “Captain Sayers is an experienced detective. He ensures that all instructions are followed and we are proud to have such a committed and dedicated member on our team.”
