Northview High School lose thousands on stolen books

NORTHVIEW – Those caught stealing can expect to be expelled from the school.

The school governing body at Northview High School has warned learners who allegedly steal other children’s books to stop or expect to be expelled from the school.

According to Aaron Molepe, the chairperson of the governing body, some children steal other children’s books and apparently sell them to independent schools.

He said this misconduct was unacceptable in the school and they wanted it to stop immediately.

“Just this year alone the school has spent more than R400 000 to buy new books but I can tell you that some learners have reported their books missing already,” said Molepe.

“It is believed that during break time while children play at the sports field, some naughty learners steal their bags containing their books. “It is believed that the stolen books are sold at a cheap price to the students attending those independent schools in Johannesburg CBD.”

Molepe said he would call for a meeting with parents to discuss a possible penalty for a learner who was caught stealing.

He added that they have also installed CCTV cameras in the schoolyard to help monitor ill-discipline and misconduct to ensure a healthy learning and teaching environment at the school.
