HOUGHTON – Lwandle Ntshangase was also selected to attend trials for the selection of the senior national team to participate in the world championships.

St John’s College is proud of their debaters who competed well at the trials for the South African National Debating Team recently.

Adam Gear and Joseph Goldblatt were selected to be part of the junior national team. Lwandle Ntshangase was selected to attend trials for the selection of the senior national team that will participate in the world championships to be held during the course of the year. If Lwandle does not qualify for this team, he will also be part of the junior national team alongside Adam and Joseph, who will travel to Thailand to represent South Africa.

Five St John’s College Grade 10 debaters including Adam, Joseph, Lwandle, Mika’il Metz and Eli Osei were selected to attend the trials to be considered for the South African National Debating Team, which in itself is a huge accolade.

Head of department for English at St John’s College Fiona Kampmann said the boys acquitted themselves with great skill and flair over the course of the weekend and must be congratulated for their impressive efforts.

“The college can be justifiably proud of these young men who have made such an indelible impact on junior debating. We look forward to seeing their progress as they move into the senior section this year,” said Kampmann.
