Eskom warns of possible load-shedding

JOBURG – Eskom has warned residents that there is a high risk that load-shedding might be implemented today.

Eskom has warned people of possible load-shedding that might affect certain parts of Johannesburg. The power utility said there is a high risk that load-shedding might be implemented today, but only if it is absolutely necessary.

Eskom said power system, however, remains tight and vulnerable. It added that it is making efforts to limit load-shedding but it could be implemented at short notice should there be a shift in plant performance.

“We continue to encourage residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electrical appliances to assist in reducing demand,” said Eskom.

However, residents across Johannesburg have posted on Twitter to alert City Power that they have no power. City Power has posted that the power outages are due to the Mulbarton feeder which tripped. This has led to a total loss of power supply at the Mondeor substation.
