UPDATE: Shooting in Parktown ends in one fatality

PARKTOWN – "The patient was assessed on scene by a Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioner and found to have no signs of life and declared deceased on the scene," read the statement issued by Netcare 911.


A man sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries on Queens Road and Princess Place in Parktown this afternoon, 4 March. 

UPDATE 8pm: According to Hillbrow police spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, it is alleged that two BMW X5s were involved in the incident. He explained that one vehicle had three occupants which started shooting at the other vehicle (one occupant) which crashed into trees over an embankment shortly after.

He continued to add that the three occupants left their vehicle and carried on shooting at the lone occupant.

“Several shots were fired and the suspects’ car had no registration details. Motive [is not yet] clear. A case of murder has been opened at Hillbrow Police Station.”

The statement said Netcare 911 paramedics responded to the reports of the shooting at 3.48pm this afternoon and found that the vehicle had ‘moved forward and went down an embankment into a park’.

“The patient was assessed on scene by a Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioner and found to have no signs of life and declared deceased on the scene,” read the statement.

“Circumstances leading up to the shooting will be investigated by the SAPS [South African Police Services] who are on scene and have cordoned off the area for investigations to take place.”
