Justice for ginger cat Gustav who was hit by a car in Parkhurst

PARKHURST – The Sandton SPCA calls on the driver of the vehicle to do the right thing and to report the incident to the police and the Sandton SPCA

A young cat was left to die a slow and lingering death after being hit by a callous motorist who had no qualms to drive off in a hurry.

Shortly after 6am on 26 February, 3-year old ginger and white Gustav was struck by a vehicle at the corner of 4th Avenue and 8th Street, Parkhurst.

An investigation is currently underway to identify the vehicle registration and track down the driver.

In the meantime, the Sandton SPCA calls on the driver of the vehicle to do the right thing and to report the incident to the police and the Sandton SPCA on 011 444 7730.

The Sandton SPCA would like to remind members of the public that any person found to have injured an animal and left it to suffer or die is subject to prosecution under the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962 and a criminal record.
This is in addition to prosecution for any violation of traffic laws.

The Sandton SPCA and Gustav’s owners would like to thank the caring motorist who, on seeing this badly injured family pet, stopped to help and rush him to the Craighall Vet. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

Due to this person’s kindness and Gustav’s microchip, his devastated owners were contacted and informed of his death.

He died close to where he had lived the three short years of his life in 8th Street, Parkhurst.
