The Parkhurst-based HospiceWits Legacy Shop appeals to the community to de-clutter their homes and donate items to the store which supports the work of Hospice Wits.
The Houghton Estate based non-profit organisation seeks to assist anyone suffering from a terminal illness with care and counselling.
The Parkhurst shop opened in 2016 with the view to sell pre-loved goods in a clean, welcoming environment.
Community members are encouraged to donate items including books, artworks, jewellery, vintage items, evening wear, menswear, ladies casual and business attire and collectables to the store in 6th Street.
Store manager Vicki Moorer explained that the Parkhurst HospiceWits Legacy Shop is the only one which sells artworks and vintage costume jewellery on commission to donors. “This allows us to get quality vintage and gives community members a safe space to sell their items.”
Moorer explained that if items do not sell, they are transferred to the Orange Grove branch to ensure they find a new home.
“We are so appreciative of every donation that comes in and try our best to make our donors feel comfy as it is sometimes difficult to part with their belongings. We ensure that items are shown respect, displayed well in store and go on to find a new home.
“I love finding a loving home for beautiful treasures and researching new items that come in that I don’t know much about. Vintage shop owners visit us from across the country to view our selection of goods.”
