Regina King, Ruth Carter, Hannah Beachler, Mahershala Ali, Peter Ramsey, Spike Lee and Kevin Willmott win big at Oscars
JOBURG – The 2019 Oscars set the record for most wins by black nominees in its history.
Honouring the best movies and performances from the past year, the 91st Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. This year’s Oscars proceeded as normal despite not having an official host after the controversy surrounding Kevin Hart’s appointment and his subsequent renunciation of the role.
Green Book won the award for Best Picture while Rami Malek and Olivia Colman took home awards for Best Actor and Actress in a Leading Role respectively.
With a total of six wins, the 2019 Oscars also set the record for most wins by black nominees in its history with wins by Regina King, Ruth Carter, Hannah Beachler, Mahershala Ali, Peter Ramsey, Spike Lee and Kevin Willmott.
