City of Johannesburg entities jointly clean-up Corlett Park

BRAMLEY – All the defects were attended to and officials say they will soon be visiting your suburb too.

Various City of Johannesburg entities got together on 20 February to conduct an extensive clean-up campaign to restore basic services at Corlett Park along Corlett Drive in Bramley.

The Metro police, Pikitup, Joburg Roads Agency, Joburg Water, City Parks and Zoo, as well as City Power, were all on site to deliver on their orders.

Trees were reshaped, grass was cut, water drains were unblocked, a pavement was cleaned and the boundary fence is also expected to be fixed to ensure by-laws are adhered to.

Region E director Liziwe Ntshinga-Makoro, who was also part of the day’s activities, said this is part of her ongoing programme to grant services to the citizens of Johannesburg north-east area.

The director said through this operation, they identify two spots in a week that they will visit as entities of local government to fix the mess.

“We have everyone working, each entity dealing with their main functions to ensure that we address issues holistically,” she said.

“This is a special operation and we are trying to get everyone working.”

Ntshinga-Makoro added, “This is not A Re Sebetseng but this programme supplements it. A Re Sebetseng is more of working together with the community at large but this special operation [though they are still invited] we try to work as entities to deal with major service defects.”

JRA contractors were also seen along the main arterial Corlett Drive removing weeds on the side of the busy road.

Ward 74 councillor, David Fisher, said he was happy that his ward was elected and the programme finally came on the residents’ doorsteps.

He also encourages residents to support the initiative adding that they need to be pro-active and participate in their quest to ensure that their ward receives adequate services.
