This is officially February’s last weekend and we’re slowly nearing the end of the Month of Love. Looking back, the past week was not bad at all as we’ve fought it and made it through. Now it’s time for us to kickback, relax and have fun at these events in the City.

22 February: Migrant Cuisines Tasting Tour

Migrant Cuisines Tasting Tour is a JoburgPlaces signature experience and a magical experience of exploring city spaces, learning about the city’s migrant history and tasting exquisite food and drinks. Taking place on 22 February, the tour is centred around the Thunder Walker and Gandhi Square with the starters being served in the Scatterlings Restaurant and the mains in the Zwipi Underground Bar while one dessert is enjoyed on Gandhi Square and the other in the Zwipi Underground Bar. 23 February: UMI: Our Music Festival

UMI: Our Music Festival, the mother of all Feelgoodseries parties, is slated to take over the lush gardens of Victoria Yards with a line-up that features Muzi, Darkie Fiction, Melo B Jones and more. Tickets available at R250 on www.quicket.co.za

23 February: A Black Aesthetic (Walkabout 1)

A Black Aesthetic, @StandardBankArt latest exhibition presents a View of South African artists (1970 -1990) & draws from the University of Fort Hare art collection. Head over to the Standard Bank Gallery for a free walkabout on opening weekend with the curator, Dr Same Mdluli. No entrance fee or bookings required, but space is limited.

24 February: Van Wyk the Storyteller of Riverle

Van Wyk the Storyteller of Riverlea, created and performed by famous South African actor, Zane Meas and directed by Christo Davids will be on-show at the Market Theatre from 25 January until 24 February.  The Storyteller of Riverlea explores renowned South African author Chris Van Wyk’s influences as a poet, as political activist and writer, his family life and his battle with cancer.  Tickets are available from R90 – R150.

24 February: Aunty Merle The Musical

With rave reviews and standing ovations night after night, Aunty Merle The Musical will see its final shows this week as the curtain closes this coming Sunday, 24 February. Tickets available on www.webtickets.co.za from R145 – R290.
