Love Your Pet Day is an unofficial holiday dedicated to ensuring your furry friend gets some extra love. The holiday falls on 20 February and calls on pet owners to show some unconditional love for their pet.
There is a bunch of ways that you can show love for your companion. Some of these include:
- Take your furry friend for a walk
- If you’re a dog-owner a walk to a local park is just the trick to give them some exercise and attention. City of Johannesburg by-laws require all animals to be on a leash in public parks so ensure that you keep a leash on your friend.
- Give your pet an extra treat
- Give your beloved companion an extra treat on 20 February to show them some extra love. Find a healthy treat for them to ensure that they remain trim. Foods such as chocolates, dairy, nuts and very salty foods can be harmful to your animal. Foods such as brown rice, carrots and cauliflower can be a tasty, healthy treat.
- Visit a local animal shelter.
If you don’t already have an animal to share the love with, visit a local animal shelter such as the Sandton SPCA, and consider adopting an animal or even take some time to volunteer. The SPCA has many lovely animals looking for a new home.
- Give your pet a bath
Make sure your pet has a shiny coat and give them a good wash. While some animals, such as rabbits, shouldn’t be bathed try giving them a brush to get out any knots they may have.
