Bezzvalley gunmen arrested by Jeppe police

BEZZVALLEY – One suspect tried to flee but the police were quick to corner and eventually arrest him.

Two men were arrested on the corner of 9th Avenue and 8th Street in Bez Valley by Jeppe police officers during their routine patrol.

The men were arrested and were facing charges of possession of firearms and ammunition, said police spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyayi.

According to Munyayi, police spotted two suspicious looking men in a car. When they stopped the vehicle the passenger got out and fled.

The officers gave chase and the suspect was cornered. When they searched him, the officers found an unlicensed firearm with nine live rounds of ammunition on his person.

“The police then arrested him and took him back to the car where the driver was being restrained by another police officer,” said Munyayi.

“They then searched the car and another illegal firearm was recovered. They both failed to produce firearm licences and were then arrested.”

Both the suspects were taken to the Jeppe Police Station and Munyayi said they would appear in a Johannesburg court soon.
