Cash-in-transit guard wounded after collecting money from a supermarket in Lyndhurst

LYNDHURST– The cash-in-transit guard was shot while exiting a lift.


A cash-in-transit guard who was collecting money from a supermarket in Lyndhurst was wounded and robbed of R97 800 in cash.

According to the stand-in spokesperson for Sandringham Police Station, Alexandra Police Station‘s Stephen Malatjie, two transit guards had just collected money from the supermarket. One of them who was the cash carrier took the lift while the other who was the rifleman took the stairs going down to clear the way for the cash carrier.

“Unfortunately, the lift started by going up before it could go down,” said Malatjie.

“The cash carrier found robbers waiting for him as the lift opened and they shot him with an AK47. They then took the money from the guard who sustained a hand injury as they got away with R97 800 in cash.”
