Two suspects were arrested by the Metro police reaction unit on 10 February following the hijacking of a white Audi A5 in Houghton Estate.
Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “The officers received a tip-off at approximately 6pm from the owner that he was hijacked at gunpoint by two male suspects and that he received information that his car was in the Braamfontein area.”
The officers spotted the hijacked vehicle in Owl Street, Auckland Park. One of the suspects pointed a gun at an officer and he was shot in the leg.
“The injured suspect is currently under police guard in Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and the second suspect was detained at Brixton Police Station for armed hijacking,” said Minnaar.
The vehicle and a firearm were recovered.
