Parkhurst Clinic gets new benches outside

PARKHURST – Patients, workers and Wi-Fi users at Parkhurst Clinic can now look forward to more comfort and reduced littering thanks to the new bins and benches outside.

Residents who visit the Parkhurst Clinic can look forward to the relief of sitting on benches while they wait for the clinic to open in the morning.

This is all thanks to Ward 117 committee member Grace Matoni who drove the project to get extra benches and bins outside the clinic. According to Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck, the idea came about from seeing people sitting on the grass on the sidewalk.

Truluck added that the residents would also come and make use of the City of Joburg’s Wi-Fi in the evenings. “The Parkhurst Residents Association funded the project which added to a total of R 7 000 with each item costing R1 100.

“The benches are made from recycled material. We decided to chain the benches with padlocks to stop theft.”

Matoni said most people who worked in the area came from other places, thus the benches were available for anyone needing rest. She also said that the benches would help people socialise more.

Sister Hazel Mabulwana from the clinic expressed her excitement and gratitude to the community for the benches. “Sometimes patients could be found lying on the grass even during bad weather while waiting for the clinic to open, so the benches will assist a lot. The bins will also help in the reduction of litter.”

Truluck said plastic bags were needed for the bins and the next project would be an efficient water-cooler for the clinic. He said that after the clinic in Rosebank had been built, Parkhurst Clinic would be considered for extension in future developments.
