Plans to start new Savoy Residents Association underway

SAVOY ESTATE – The purpose is to promote, protect and foster the interests of the residents.

Residents of the greater Savoy Estate have been called on to support the establishment of a new residents association intended to help address issues affecting them in their suburb.

Savoy Estate Residents’ Association, also to be known as Sera, is expected to help address pressing issues such as crime, municipal services, developments, projects, social events and many other issues.

According to organiser, Lennie Glasser, residents and homeowners living in Savoy Estate may join the association. Glasser said they hope to encourage all residents of Savoy to join so that they can achieve the goals, to be defined by the association, as a unified group.

“We are of the opinion that a unified residents’ association is more likely able to affect change and transformation within the suburb as opposed to a whole lot of individuals each trying to bring about change in the area,” she said.

“We aim to improve the overall appearance of the area. We want to engage as many residents and business owners in the area to join together to assist with uplifting the area. The purpose is to promote, protect and foster the interests of the residents, staff and property owners in Savoy Estate.”

Ward 74 councillor David Fisher has welcomed the idea and even promised to support it to enable greater participation among residents in the Savoy area. Fisher said this enables a flow of information adding that residents or participants will be able to report their concerns effectively through this platform.

“There are many benefits to having a coordinated approach to community-based problems.

“Residents’ associations have the ability to consolidate and focus the community on the most important common issues,” said Fisher encouraging all residents to join.

He said such associations are a very important vehicle for residents to actively participate in their community to the benefit of the whole community.
