Anele Mdoda and the gang gear up to set The Voice SA alight

JOBURG – Anele Mdoda comes on board as the host of The Voice while Riky Rick, Lira, Francois Van Coke and Riana Nel take on the red chair.

Returning on screens for a third season today, 3 February, The Voice South Africa has bagged Anele Mdoda, one of South Africa’s most-loved media personalities as the host for season three of the singing contest.

Mdoda is set to take on her new role when the show’s Blind Auditions kicked off last year.

“I love, love, love The Voice. There is a very special camaraderie among the coaches, host and talent. Everyone does their best to make everyone else look and feel good. It’s friendly, it’s warm, it’s me! I am truly blessed that M-Net is giving me this opportunity and am excited to be there when red chairs turn to change people’s lives,” Mdoda said.

M-Net’s head of publicity Lani Lombard said Mdoda has an extraordinary gift to make people feel at ease and said the channel was honoured to be working with her on the show.

“She can chat up a storm, she’s a good listener and she makes people laugh – and shed a tear – without even trying.  And she’s spunky and fun.  She does it one way, and that’s the Anele Mdoda way,” Lombard said.

During the Blind Auditions, The Voice SA coaches, four esteemed and renowned South African musos, listened to the contestants, with their iconic red chairs turned away from the stage. The coaches based their decisions entirely on what they heard. In order to fill up their teams, the coaches need to turn their chairs and give themselves quite a testimonial to persuade their selected contestant to choose them as a mentor, if more than one coach turns around – from there the lucky coach will guide and train the talent through the various stages of the competition, in hopes to produce the next Voice of South Africa.

A red chair had already been reserved for rapper and fashion extraordinaire Riky Rick as he takes on the role of one of the four coaches. The muso took to Twitter to let everybody know that he will be joining The Voice SA.

“Looking forward to building the greatest, freshest, most energetic and legendary team in the history of mankind as we know it. Clear your Sundays, Coach Makhado is here,” Riky Rick said.

Riky Riky will be joined by fellow judges Lira, Riana Nel, and  Francois Van Coke.

The winner of the contest is set to receive a recording deal as well as some remarkable prizes.  Previous winners, Richard Stirton and Craig Lucas, have both engraved successful careers in the South African music industry with chart-topping singles, while many of the finalists also nabbed recording contracts and even Sama nominations.
