Security partnership meeting highlights

ROSEBANK – The first of this year's weekly Sector 1 and Sector 2 partnership meeting to discuss crime trends and solutions took place at the Rosebank Police Station

Sectors 1 and 2 in Rosebank held their first weekly partnership meeting of this year at the Rosebank Police Station. The meeting was attended by representatives from various community interest groups including security companies, CPF members and residents associations among others.

Rosebank police spokesperson Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe welcomed everyone and highlighted that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss new crime trends, problematic areas and find solutions going forward. “Theft out of vehicles and common robberies have gone down and distribution of information to the public seems to be working,” said Mdletshe.

Representative from CAP Security said that follow-homes from the airport were on the rise again with criminals now having two cars and one takes over to make it look like one is not being followed.

The Forest Town representative said the pipe replacement project would be starting soon throughout the suburb, therefore security would be beefed-up. A challenge raised by Excellerate Services was that of Uber cars parking on Tyrwhitt Avenue by Bath and Cradock avenues leading to blocking of other cars.

City Parks and Johannesburg Zoo representative reported that people were illegally protesting regarding the elephant at the zoo on random weekends and if they continued to do so arrests would soon be made.

Regarding the voter’s registration weekend Mdletshe said, “In as much as there is usually good behaviour in the area during voter registration periods, we will still be making sure there is police visibility at this time,”.
