JOBURG – local film, Matwetwe, has made an impressive R980 762 within its first three days at the local box office.

Diprente and UIP South Africa announced that local film, Matwetwe, has made an impressive R980 762 within its first three days at the local box office. The movie which was produced by Tamsin Anderson and is Diprente’s third production following Blitz Patrollie and Catching Feelings, has delivered an amazing R57 700 screen average over 17 exhibitor sites and will look at increasing its national footprint within the coming weeks.

Black Coffee, South African multi award-winning record producer and DJ, who also acted as executive producer on the film said Matwetwe was the best performing SA film this weekend.

“We are all over the moon. You all made this happen and because of the demand, many more screens are being added on Friday. You all spoke and they listened,” Black Coffee said.

Celebrated stand-up comedian, actor, and writer, Kagiso Lediga, who also wrote, directed and produced Matwetwe, said the opening results go to show that the market is hungry for this kind of content.

Matwetwe was the placed on the fourth position at the South African box office for the weekend 25 – 27 January.  The film is a coming of age adventure following Lefa and Papi, best friends and recent high school graduates, on the hustle of their young lives. Over the course of an action-packed New Year’s Eve in the iconic township of Atteridgeville, the boys try to score a huge deal, dodge a kingpin gangster and his violent minions, get the girl and ultimately save their lives in this hilarious escapade.
