#ICYMI: Hillbrow ‘thief’ set alight for robbing victim of a handbag

HILLBROW – Police are investing two cases of murder and attempted murder.

A suspected handbag snatcher is fighting for his life in a Johannesburg hospital after an angry mob in Hillbrow caught up with him.

The man, along with his accomplice, allegedly snatched a handbag from their victim on 14 January in full view of the community who then gave chase and apprehended them and then beat them to a pulp and set one alight.

Spokesperson for Hillbrow Police Station, Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said, “The two snatched the bag and when they tried to flee, the community cornered them and beat them before setting one alight.”

“Due to the suspect’s injuries, we are not sure when he will be discharged to face the consequences of his apparent crime.”
