ICYMI: Joburg Water says the problem at the #ParktownReservoir has been detected and resolved

ROSEBANK – Joburg Water is working to resolve the problem.

A large area from Killarney to Hyde Park has been affected by a water outage due to an issue at the Parktown Reservoir.

Suburbs affected include Hyde Park, Rosebank, Saxonwold, Dunkeld, Illovo, Killarney, Houghton and Riviera.

UPDATE 3pm:

The problem at the Parktown Reservoir 2 has been detected and resolved, according to Joburg Water.

“We are channeling more water to Parktown Reservoir 2 to improve capacity and this involved closing the Berea Reservoir off take,” said Joburg Water in a statement.

Joburg Water says they are monitoring the situation and when Parktown Reservoir 1 is at a high level, they will close it again to further boost supply into Parktown 2.

According to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital spokesperson, Lungiswa Mvumvu, water supply at the hospital has been restored to acceptable levels and all services in the hospital are fully functional.

“Patients on renal dialysis treatment have received their treatment and the one-day backlog on elective surgeries is being addressed. We wish to thank all our staff and patrons who supported the call and still appeal to all to use water sparingly,” said Mvumvu.

This is after the hospital experienced water outage the previous day due to water outage at the Parktown Resevoir.

“In the meantime, we lifted the restriction from the Parktown Reservoir 2 to start filling the system and therefore the situation in the supply area should start improving.”

“We appeal for patience as the system is recharging to capacity and will update later today,” said Joburg Water.

UPDATE 11.30am:

Johannesburg Water said they are working closely with Rand Water to resolve the problem at the Parktown reservoir.

UPDATE 9 January:

Joburg Water says they have identified the problem and are working on a plan to restore the water supply to the reservoir.

At this stage there is no estimated time of restoration. Tanks have been requested to supply those in the areas most critically affected including Houghton, Rosebank, Melrose Extensions, Melrose Estate, Birdhaven, Killarney, Saxonwold, Riviera, Parktown North, Dunkeld and Parkwood.

According to Ward 117 Councillor Tim Truluck, Joburg Water is assessing the problem.

“In the meantime, please use water sparingly. This could take some time to both resolve and replenish the water in the reservoir,” said Truluck.
